Book Recommendations from the SC Crew: 2nd Edition

Two weeks ago, I asked our team to send me their book recommendations to share with our customers, followers, and friends. We received an overwhelming response from women who were thrilled to find their next great read! Here's the "second edition," even more books to enjoy! Each title is linked to the Kindle edition. You can visit our earlier post for even more books! Have fun!

Liz, our Florida Regional Manager recommends...

The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict: Investigates the iconic invention and life story of a film star who possessed stunning beauty and a brilliant mind in a time when the world couldn't handle both

The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni: A coming of age story of a boy born with ocular albinism (red eyes), his journey through a life of torment and bullies, and redemption in his quest to find his true self

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles: A Russian aristocrat is sentenced to a life of "house arrest" in an attic room inside a luxury hotel in Moscow where his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of self-discovery. The main character is so well developed that I found myself missing him once I had finished the novel.

Patty, our Vero Beach Store Manager recommends...

The Summer Wives: A Novel by Beatriz Williams: In the summer of 1951, Miranda Schuyler arrives on Winthrop Island where she is catapulted into a heady new world of pedigrees and cocktails.

The Dressmaker’s Gift by Fiona Valpy: In the 1940s, Paris is occupied by the Nazis as three young seamstresses go about their normal lives as best they can... but all three are hiding secrets.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens: At once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder

Kristen, our Osterville Store Manager recommends…

Olive Again by Elizabeth Strout: The heartfelt story of Olive Kitteridge as she touches the lives of so many people from her past into her present

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett: Set over 5 decades, a family who lives in a lavish Philadelphia estate reveal past and present facets of family relationships.

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner: Two very different sisters growing up in 1950’s Detroit experience movements of free love, Vietnam, Woodstock, and women’s lib.

Our Watch Hill Store Manager Lisa recommends...

This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel: Revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and families with secrets they don't get to keep forever

The Women In the Castle by Jessica Shattuck: The lives and fates of three widows become intertwined within a dramatic portrait of war and its repercussions.

Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult: A deeply moving, gripping, and intelligent page-turner about a daughter's search for her mother

Claire, our Charleston Store Manager recommends...

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb: “I had tickets to attend a luncheon to meet Lori Gottlieb and get a signed copy of her book at the end of March that was of course, canceled. Instead, I got her book through Audible and am listening to it at home while doing house chores. I would definitely recommend it!” –Claire

Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman: "Early in March, B.C. (before Coronavirus), I got a chance to meet Alison Roman and listen to a live podcast taping. Now, while at home, I’ve made a few recipes from her new cookbook. I loved the One-Pot Chicken with Dates and Caramelized Lemon, and then made a bone broth soup the next day with the remaining chicken. It is such a satisfying way to cook! I’m looking forward to when we can entertain again!" –Claire

Peter, our Co-President recommends...

The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larsen: A chronicle of Winston Churchill, the second world war, and the essence of leadership... a timely read and a very readable history lesson!

As usual, feel free to comment on our post with your own recommendations! We hope you find inspiration from our new reading list!
