Book Recommendations from the SC Crew

One of the silver linings of staying inside is it feels a little easier to find time for solitary activities that nourish the soul like reading, painting, writing, or practicing yoga. If you're like me, you can only take so much television before you're ready to "come back to earth" with a quiet activity! Our team sent over some of their book recommendations to share with everyone. Each title is linked to the Kindle edition... enjoy!

Monique, our Midwest Regional Manager recommends…

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummings: A must-read about immigrants coming into the US under terrible circumstances

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes: A true story of a group of strong women who deliver books by horseback to those who could not otherwise get reading materials

Stay by Catherine Ryan Hyde: A story about a young boy who succeeds in saving three of the dearest people he knows despite many obstacles

Nicole, our Director of Planning recommends...

The 13th Gift by Joanne Huist Smith: A true story of a Christmas Miracle and paying it forward

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate: A true story of a family ripped apart, the narrative unraveling between 1930's and present day

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman: Story about a quirky woman and her daily life

Kaylie, our Director of Brand Marketing recommends…

Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel: A laugh-out-loud story about a vivacious woman set out to prove herself to the high society of Palm Springs in the 1970s

The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand: A page-turning mystery about a young woman discovered dead the morning of a multi-million-dollar wedding on Nantucket (I’m only recommending this if daydreaming of the beach won’t send you over the edge during quarantine!)

Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed: A powerful collection of advice columns, many of which evolve into short stories with deeply important and relatable themes that will stay with you forever (I have read this 3x over the last several years and it is a great match for the quarantine blues)

Sally, our Watch Hill Store Manager recommends…

Them by Francine Du Plessix Gray: About the extraordinary lives of two fascinating, irrepressible people who were larger than life emblems of a bygone age, written by their daughter

All the Light You Cannot See by Anthony Doerr: About a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II... a thought provoking read fitting for the current climate

A Well-Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler: A riveting novel of iron-willed Alva Vanderbilt and her illustrious family as they rule Gilded-Age New York

Mary Ann, our Nantucket Store Manager recommends...

Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano: Coming of age story about Edward, a 12-year-old who is the sole survivor of a plane crash. (Particularly fitting since no one is flying right now!)

The Two-Family House: A Novel by Lynda Cohen Loigman: During a blizzard in Brooklyn in 1947, two babies are born minutes apart and a gripping multigenerational story woven around deep secrets ensues...

The Great Alone: A Novel by Kristen Hanna: About a family’s struggle for survival in isolated Alaska

Deidra, our Wellesley Store Manager recommends...

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn: A thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house

The Wife Between Us: A Novel by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen: It's easy to assume this story is about a jealous ex-wife (whose life is a mess) who is obsessed with her younger replacement, but that couldn't be further than the truth

The Perfume Collector: A Novel by Kathleen Tessaro: A 1950's socialite receives an unexpected inheritance from a complete stranger which takes her on a journey through decades from New York to Monte Carlo, Paris, and London
