Daycation to Rhode Island...

Watch Hill is a small town that occupies the southernmost point of Rhode Island, and less than 200 people call it home. Honestly, I hadn’t even heard of it before I started working at Sara Campbell. While we moved headquarters last week, Sara asked that Kaylie and I pay a visit to our newest Rhode Island boutique. I was excited to road trip for a day, but I was even more eager to visit the small town, a hidden gem that has become home to one of our resort stores.

Kaylie and I met around 10 AM at our Wellesley store where the weather was bleak and gray. We packed the car full of the newest Sara Campbell merchandise before starting the road trip I had been looking forward to all week. No more than 45 minutes into the trip, it started to pour…and that’s an understatement. I don’t even know a word that can sufficiently describe the rain that was coming down. My excitement turned to slight disappointment. I thought our day would be soggy and ruined! Then, like a scene out of a movie, the skies turned from torrential downpour to bright sunshine just as we passed the “Welcome to Historic Watch Hill” sign. The town was as beautifully beachy as I had imagined, and the boutique far exceeded my expectations (which I’m not just saying because I’m supposed to).

The store sits on a picturesque corner overlooking the water, and it bookends a quaint street laden with small shops and inviting restaurants. I thought such a small town would be very quiet, but Watch Hill bustled while maintaining the certain tranquility associated with a seaside destination.

Kaylie and I had a wonderful day in and around the boutique. Our Rhode Island regional store manager, Sally, greeted us with my three favorite C’s: cheese, crackers, and cupcakes. We were lucky enough to see the trunk show that day showcasing Rosemary’s Baskets. The baskets accentuated the nautical essence of the boutique, and every customer who came in admired their beauty and detail.

We were able to chat with a few guests before shuffling in racks full of our beautiful new fall pieces. Once we had unloaded the new merchandise, we decided to take a walk down to the marina to check out the yachts docked behind our store!

After enjoying one (or two) more cupcakes back in the boutique, Kaylie and I reluctantly said goodbye and headed to our Newport boutique for the remainder of the afternoon... but not before stopping off at Taylor Swift's residence to drop off a dress! We continued on down winding roads past the famous Newport mansions and arrived at the boutique with yet more racks and bundles of fall apparel (in true in Santa Claus fashion!) We enjoyed browsing the store and talking with Carole and Mary Kay, who were preparing for a different trunk show taking place in their boutique the following day.

Eventually, our daycation came to an end and it was time to return to Boston. After spending a day in Rhode Island, I realized I don’t give that tiny state enough credit. It’s incredibly beautiful, and seems like a wonderful place to spend summer days on the beach and, of course, shopping at Sara Campbell!
